The Scrench Page

A Scrench or T Bar wrench is a tool intended for adjusting the chain tension on a chain saw, removing the spark plug and making necessary adjustments. It's a versatile little tool thats does the job of 2 wrenches and a screwdriver. The Scrench is not restricted to the chain saw. It's good as a maintenance tool for small gas engine powered grass trimmers, leaf blowers and even Go Karts. You can even change the spark plugs in your car with it if you have 19mm Spark Plugs in it. It's a worthwhile, versatile, universal little tool to carry around everywhere you go.

Screnches can be used to remove the Spark Plugs from Weed Wackers Screnches fit the spark plugs for Leaf Blowers as well as Chain Saws. Note how the thin body of the Scrench gets deep into the plastic case to reach the plug. A view of the wrench end of the Scrench. Click any of the pictures to see larger image.

In the chart below, I have tried to cross reference various types of scrench with manufacturers of chain saws so it's a little bit easier for the individual to figure out what size scrench will fit their equipment.

Scrench, Wrench and Spark Plug Sizes for US/Imperial Nuts & Bolts

This next chart should be very helpful if you need to figure out what bolt size corresponds to each wrench size. It also helps you if you need to order new nuts because nuts are purchased based on the bolt size. Nuts can get lost or the threads can become damaged. This chart will help you find the right nut size based on the wrench you used to remove it.

Common Spark Plug Size

Since you can have bolts of the same diameter with different thread types you need to check the thread so you know what to ask for. If you are able to locate the bolt you are trying to find a nut for, use your measuring tape and lay the bolt down on it stopping at the first inch mark. Count the number of threads in one inch and refer to the chart. The second number after the bolt size is the number of threads per inch. With all the products being made in China these, you are probably going to run into some metric threads. I have listed a couple but you really need thread guages to determine what metric thread you have, or you could take the bolt with you and try it out on a few metric nuts that are close in diameter.

Spark Plug sizes removeable with the Scrench

Screnches are primarily designed to remove 10mm and 12mm Spark Plugs which are commonly used in small gas engine tools such as Chainsaws, Weed Wackers and Leaf Blowers. Screnches may not fit the spark plugs used in your Lawnmower or Car or Motorcycle. These may use Spark Plugs requiring 21mm or 13/16" wrench size or 27mm or 1-1/8" wrench size. The chart below summarizes the different thread styles for SAE Standard spark plugs.

Torx fasteners used in Modern Chainsaws and other Gas Engine powered devices

Some chain saws manufacturers such as Stihl and Oregon have started using "Torx" fasteners on their models. Screnches have been made with the T-27 Torx bit that is required. This chart gives you a cross reference between existing fasteners and Torx fasteners. The chart will tell what size bolts you are likely to find in your saw if the T-27 bit fits them.
